One of the bespoke services offered at Maclynn International is something called Your Dating Blueprint, or YDB. YDB is an assessment tool to help you unpack your love life. Amongst other things, it has a list of statements of which you pick the ones that apply to you. The very first statement is “I don’t know where to start meeting people” and quite a large portion of our clients, who sign up for this diagnostic, say this applies to them. They do indeed struggle to know where to start when they embark on their dating journey.
Why is meeting people a challenge?
This can be for several reasons. Some have just come out of a very long relationship, typically a 10/20/30-year marriage, and have not had to think about dating for a long time. Suddenly single again, the dating scene looks incredibly daunting.
Others have been engrossed in work or other commitments and feel uncertain about how to get themselves ‘out there’. Others still have had such bad luck in love, that they figure they are lost in the search for a lifelong partner. A smaller portion, who are shy or more introverted, find the thought of going out terrifying. They want a relationship but feel unsure about how to begin their search for love.
How can YDB help you?
Your Dating Blueprint is a versatile tool, so it also helps to reveal the reasons why people struggle to date. The interesting thing though is what do you do about this predicament? Where does one start?
You may think the straightforward answer is online dating or hiring a matchmaker. However, you may be surprised to learn that it’s neither. You have to start with your mindset. Do you believe that you deserve love? Do you believe that you have something to offer someone from a romantic perspective? Do you believe that there is someone out there who will love and care for you? Are you capable of intimacy and closeness?
If you reply no to any of these questions, you may find that with even the perfect match in front of you, you will not get into a relationship. For whatever reason, your inner mindset has some significant issues that you need to address first. Yes, you may be afraid of getting hurt, and yes you may experience disappointment during the process of finding your life partner and this may make you fearful of dating.
However, if you don’t release negative assumptions about yourself, dating, and relationships, they will quite likely remain true. Think of the saying “if you keep doing the same thing, you can’t expect a different outcome”. That is the trick your mind is playing on you.
A solution to this problem is introspection. Whether you start meditating, journaling, or book a consultation with our in-house relationship expert – it is the first important step in achieving your goal to find love.
