Going through a global pandemic is certainly an experience that will change the way we think, live, and act. For many, it may be a great opportunity to take a step back from our busy schedules and take time for ourselves. Or you may have taken on a new hobby that you’ve been meaning to start for years, perhaps yoga or knitting? For those singletons out there, it can be a lonely time living by yourself with no opportunity to socialize and spend time with friends and loved ones. For some, being plunged into lockdown alone has given some clarity on just how important finding ‘the one’ is, and perhaps how different their life maybe with some romance and love.

It is time for proactive dating and you will not find the love of your life sitting on your couch binge-watching Netflix. As a matchmaking agency, clients, with completely different backgrounds, come to us from all over the world- but they all have one thing in common. They cannot seem to meet the right people. This may be for several reasons, such as not being attracted to the people that they are meeting, or that their core values don’t align or that they don’t feel as though they are the right caliber.

We have all heard the sweet, once in a lifetime stories of two people meeting and falling in love or those who end up marrying the first person they matched with online, and don’t get me wrong, we all secretly wish it could happen to us. In reality, you have to put yourself out there if you want to find love, and you need to accept responsibility when it comes to finding your life partner. There are so many opportunities to meet people and get creative with dating (and perhaps our love gurus can give you a helping hand!).

Online dating

Online dating has more relevance than ever, with all of our social interactions now being via phone and message, it doesn’t seem so dramatic to extend that to our love life. I can say as a matchmaker, online dating has completely changed the entire dating scene, and there are now more apps and online sites than we ever expected. We can now meet people from all walks of life, anywhere in the world and people we would never have had the chance of meeting otherwise.

The challenge with online dating is that it’s hard to know when to stop swiping and clicking through profiles. What if you’re 10 swipes away from your soulmate? When we are faced with too many choices and we no longer have to sit for 5 hours in a bar looking for ‘the one’ to walk in, it seems like an endless task of swiping until our head hits the pillow.

Now you have this exciting opportunity to meet all of these new, interesting and attractive strangers, both of you don’t have the social context of having known each other for a long time or the spark you get from meeting in real life. There’s a chance that the first meeting in person will ignite the spark between you both, but this can’t be guaranteed, and sometimes the chemistry just isn’t there.

Many prefer to take it back to the old days of meeting organically, getting out there and mingling with all of the eligible singletons that you set your eyes on.

A good place to start is considering what you a truly looking for and what you would like to get out of it. Are you looking for something serious, like marriage and a family? Are you looking to get back into the swing of things and ease yourself in with a few harmless dates? By taking these first steps, you can approach dating with a much more concrete plan of who is it that you want to meet and why. You can make sure to avoid all of the time-wasters who are only looking for a fling and instead seek out that select few of committed individuals who share the same values and same desires.

How do we go about finding them?

Think about what it is that you truly care about in life. Is it your career, fitness, philanthropy, a hobby, or traveling? By taking the time to break this down, you can begin to research places or events where you’re likely to meet likeminded individuals. This might sound like a school project, but it will be the first step in the right direction to not just enjoying your life, but also meeting likeminded people, and who knows… sparks might just fly.

Let’s not forget the other option, matchmaking.

Have you ever considered working with your own personal love guru, who not only knows you like a best friend but can put plenty of attractive and eligible singles in front of you and guide you through the daunting first dates? A matchmaker is an investment that can potentially change your life by introducing you to the joy of a lifelong, meaningful romantic relationship. We make sure to take our time to get to know every client inside out, their likes, dislikes, values, desires, passions and they know exactly who is right for you.
